Monday 28th April

Hurrah! This morning I woke up feeling perfectly normal, it's as if the last few days were just a nightmare but thankfully I still have the weight loss to show for it!!  To celebrate my new found wellbeing (okay, slight exaggeration, I'm still a bit tired having not eaten properly for 4 days) I busied myself baking impromptu fairy cakes which promptly got eaten by Peter and the girls, toad in the hole for dinner (is there anyone who doesn't like Yorkshire pudding?!) followed by homemade chocolate sponge pudding - we're all pudding'd out!!!

Lauren came home from playgroup at lunchtime with her face painted like a cat.  She's never had her face painted before as I was always concerned it would fire off her excema but touch wood it's ok.  She didn't want to wash off her whiskers at bedtime and tried to eat her dinner like a cat - it didn't go down well at the dinner table!  She looked really cute and was lovely to see.  I've added a photo in the April Album.

I am having a hair crisis at the moment.  Peter thinks I should grow it again, I like the ease of it being short but like the feel of it being a bit longer so have to decide whether I can break through the awful half way hair barrier - time will tell!

Saturday 26th April

Yuk! I spent the whole of yesterday in bed.  Thankfully Peter arrived back home on Thursday night otherwise I'm not sure how I would have coped.  It's not often that I stay in bed but I could hardly move and felt so, so bad.  Today I feel a better but still not 100% but there is a bonus, I've managed to lose over 5lbs!!  Big thank you to my friend Julie who took Lauren to her ballet class!

My morning was also brightened when the postman delivered my new freebie jute shopping bag from Which? in support of their Kid's Food Campaign.  I can't wait to use it to collect my fresh fruit and veg (plus it's got properly padded handles so is really comfortable and strong!).

Wednesday 23rd April

The last fortnight has been a bit of a blur. We seem to have done loads of things but when and exactly what I am not 100% sure of!!

Last week we spent a lot of time outdoors doing jobs like felling trees and cleaning vehicles.  This week has been hard as Peter has been away all week again, however the girls have been behaving themselves which has made it a lot more pleasant.

Today we had a lovely morning with my friend Natalie and her son Zak (he's a few months younger than Martha).  We met up at Hesketh Farm Park and although the weather was drizzly, it was mild with little wind.  The first big event of the morning was feeding the lambs.  Everyone sat in a square on hay bales armed with feeding bottles.  The staff had advised us that the lambs come rushing out so don't get a fright.  When they opened the pen, true to their word, they came flying out and about 4 made a beeline for us as we were sat right opposite the pen!  Lauren and Martha were really calm and didn't get scared at all, Martha actually started going to them (she was so excited!), Lauren just followed the instructions as to how to feed them and got on with it giggling all the time.  After feeding was over (about 1 minute!)Martha helped collect all the bottles from everyone in the group and put them away (she's very tidy!) and then tried to pick a lamb up!  Afterwards, we saw some pigs and to Lauren's delight piglets which were gorgeous.  We then went to see some guinea pigs and rabbits and again the girls enjoyed holding and stroking them all.  There were lovely chicks that made them both laugh and tadpoles which I haven't seen for years.  We then went outside again and saw the donkeys, goats and more lambs.  They had a chicken run and Lauren & I went to collect eggs whilst Martha played on some ride-on tractors with Natalie and Zak.  Peter has been talking about getting some hens and I think if they had the set-up here that they had at the Farm, I'd be happy to have them, I just don't want too many as I know that I'd end up looking after them all the time, it would be nice to have some fresh eggs though and I could even sell some at the end of the lane (our main road lane is one of the few that doesn't have eggs for sale along it, so it might be an opportunity!!).  After lunch, we played for a bit longer and as both Martha and Zak were getting tired we decided to go home.  The girls bought a mask each, Martha a sheep, Lauren a cow (she's not taken it off very much!).

Tonight I spent the evening sewing elastic onto Lauren's ballet shoes which took me longer than the 10 minutes I thought it would!!

I watched The Apprentice and was annoyed when Claire was in the winning team, I wanted her to go this week, she just seems (or at least is edited to appear so) so vindictive and smug grrrrr!

I've updated the April Photo Album finally!

Sunday 13 April

Thank you for my lovely birthday cards and gifts!!  They are all so nice, I feel spoilt!!

I was awoken this morning with coffee and breakfast in bed and serenaded to with "Happy Birthday to You" from Lauren, Martha and Peter.  The girls sat with me in bed whilst I opened the cards and gifts - Martha was very funny and each item I picked up she'd squeal "ooooh"!  Peter's mum came over as we were leaving for Church with some sad news that Great (Great) Auntie Joyce passed away during the night. She'd been fighting cancer for about the last year so it wasn't sudden as such but still sad all the same - we shall all miss her enormously.

Lauren and I came home from Church and the girls and Peter played outside in between the rainstorms whilst I played on the computer and tidied up (very exciting!!).  When they came in, Lauren ordered me to wait in the bedroom whilst she did some decorating with Peter's help.  I was called through and Lauren had organised for the lounge ceiling to be decorated with hanging spirals - it was really lovely and was probably the highlight of my day.  After the girls had dinner, I bathed them and we enjoyed getting ready for bed together blowdrying both their hair and pretending to be at the hairdressers.  Peter went out to collect an Indian takeaway which we've just enjoyed and I'm now feeling full - but not too full as to not enjoy some of the fab gift from Laura and Kev from here!!!!

Playgroup starts again tomorrow so I hope that the return to the regular routine will be a blessing for us all - these last 3 weeks have been hard work - goodness knows how I'll cope in Summer!!!

Friday 11th April

I had all plans for this morning, unfortunately they went pearshaped when the weather was horrendous!!  After lunch, Lauren got ready for her first ballet class, she was very excited but nervous.  When we left the house, it had actually started to snow!!  A few weeks ago I told Lauren that it had once snowed on my birthday and she when she saw the snow, she said "Look mum, it's snowing and it's nearly your birthday!"  I was really surprised that she'd remembered that little bit of "in passing" information.

We arrived at the Church Hall and got Lauren ready for her ballet class.  She looked absolutely beautiful and was very proud of her ballet shoes.  She went into the hall where I introduced her to her teacher, Mrs Atkinson.  She's been talking about Mrs Atkinson since we discovered she was starting classes so I was very proud when she said "hello Mrs Atkinson".  I retreated back into the coffee lounge with Martha and took the occasional peek through the door to see how she was getting on.  I was so happy to see her with one of the biggest smiles on her face doing "happy toes, sad toes"!  After class, we left and made a few phone calls, one of which was to my mum.  Lauren told her "I've just been to ballet class and I loved it! I really loved it!".  It was so nice seeing her doing something she loves so much and is also good at - well done Lauren!!

I decided to go straight to ASDA from ballet for a few bits and the girls behaved wonderfully which is such a rare event when we go to the supermarket.  Lauren is normally very good but Martha is a nightmare for climbing out of the trolley, trying to grab items from the shelves - aarrrgghhh!  It was a very pleasant trip!  I tried to work the photo cake machine but couldn't so gave up and Lauren picked up a clown cake which we're going to share with my dad whose birthday is on Saturday.

On the way back home, we were in a really bad storm, I thought we'd encounter the forecasted thunder/lightning but didn't.  Martha made us both laugh and laugh.  I looked in my rear view mirror and saw Martha apparently out for the count, mouth open and all!  I said to Lauren, "aww look, Martha's fallen asleep let's be quiet" at which point Martha sprung forward, massive grin on her face and shouting "aarrgghh!".  I didn't realise that she could pretend so well!!  Lauren made me laugh earlier in the day too.  She has a musical chair that plays different tunes/songs, one of them ends "a dub de dub ahhhh" and I heard her singing that complete with jazz hands!!!  I wish I'd recorded it but it was one of those spur of the moment things that aren't as funny to recreate.

Tonight, Peter took me to my favourite restaurant for my birthday - The Dragon Inn in Ripon.  It is probably the best Chinese I've ever had, I always really enjoy it.   Thank you Peter!!

Wednesday 9th April

It's been a lovely afternoon and evening today.  This morning was marred by Lauren's misbehaviour however I'm going to focus on what the day became...

After lunch, we all headed into Harrogate to buy Lauren her first proper pair of ballet shoes in preparation for Friday's class (yes, her place is confirmed!).  We realised that neither Peter or myself had change for parking so decided that I would jump out with Lauren whilst Peter & Martha stayed in the vehicle (or rather they visited a friend).  Stupidly I thought I'd remember where the dance shop was but didn't really so we spent 20 mins wandering around where I "thought" it was!  We found an another dance shop and we entered...

Lauren's face lit up as she "ooh'd and ahh'd" over all the dresses, shoes, costumes etc.  She sat down nervously in the chair whilst a really friendly assistant asked her questions about her ballet class.  Lauren was probably the most animated I've seen her when talking with a stranger!  We left, wallet lighter and armed with a big bag filled with the tiniest ballet shoes, ballet kitbag, headband (in pink of course!), tights and a little purse filled with some hairbands.  I'm going to take a photograph of her all dressed up tomorrow and I'll post it on here.

After dinner, the evening was so lovely, we decided to have a walk around.  Our elderly neighbour had a big tree that had blown down in the recent high winds that needed clearing up so we helped to do that.  The girls were a great help putting branches into the tractor bucket and to be honest we stayed out later than we should have and certainly 45 mins past their bedtime of 1900hrs but they were on such good form and enjoying helping Howard that we ploughed on - they have both worked so hard!!  They both fell asleep about 5 mins after I left the room, hmmmm, I wonder if it's going to be a nice evening tomorrow!?!?

Monday 7th April

I thought that the Easter holidays would drag on and on and on but the last 2 weeks have felt really busy and fast!  It's probably the reason why I've not been blogging as much!  I'd love to tell you what we've done however, it's not terribly exciting not entertaining!  We've taken advantage of the strange weather, playing outside when it's sunny and outside when we've snow!  We've made headway into our biggest shed (80ft x 30ft) and will soon be able to make it more usable and hopefully no longer just a storage place for excess furniture aka rubbish!!  We'll actually be able to use it properly to store the tractor, generators, Peter, etc hahaha!

I had the strangest form of communication arrive this morning!  Before Christmas, I completed a registration/enrolment form for Lauren to start pre-school ballet/dance class.  Not heard a peep from the Principal until an invoice arrived in the post!  Granted it was for £0.00 but there was no other correspondence with it ie, start date, session time, uniform required, etc!!  Thinking the information sheet just might have been forgotten to be enclosed, I called my friend who had also enroled her daughter at the same time but no hers was the same - how bizarre?!?  I'm going to call in the morning to make sure that she is due to start classes and if so when - I suspect it will be this Friday, which means an unscheduled trip into Harrogate to the dance shop to purchase her shoes thankfully we already have a ballet dress (actually does it still fit? note to self, CHECK!).

Please can you visit my sisters' mini-city site?  It needs to grow and each visit (1 click per day) helps to grow it! You should see some of the "cities" at the top!!

Wednesday 3rd April

The forecast for today was meant to be sunshine and temperature of between 8-11 - hmph!  It didn't happen, at least not what I was hoping for!  I managed to get the girls out playing for a bit in the afternoon which was lovely just for us all to run around for a while but the wind was really chilly!  We wandered about for a while before heading to to Peter's mums' house for a cup of tea and play indoors.

Earlier in the afternoon the girls and I made uncooked chocolate bars.  Really simple to make but as I was pouring the ingredients into the pan, I thought about how sweet and sickly they were going to be.  Needless to say, greediness this evening prompted me to eat a small (I promise it was!) slice and bleurgh I felt sick! I now need to cut the portions I made (as indicated in the recipe!) down even further but they are nice!

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow as Peter comes back home.  We really do miss each other when we're apart, the girls go crazy when he comes home which isn't probably helpful after a long drive but I'm certain their happy faces brighten him up!!

Monday 31st March

Peter left this morning to work away again.  He's been away so much recently it's been a drain on us all.  I'm going to look at getting him some vitamin supplements.  Since I've started taking Vitamin B6, Evening Primrose and Echinacea I feel so much better!  This morning, the girls and I looked out the door and to the girls excitement there was a policecar parked on the field. They come up to Peter's dad quite a bit to discuss Police/Council matters but usually park at their house so the girls don't often see the patrol car unless we're outside.  I've never seen them get shoes and coats on so fast!  The three of us walked over to see them and they offered the girls a sit in the car when they came back out.  They were thrilled when they switched the blue lights on but neither would sit in the car!

In the afternoon, Peter's mum offered to watch the girls and I managed to get a huge amount of clearing and cleaning done - I felt very proud of how much I accomplished and the girls had a lovely afternoon playing outside in the warm sun!
