Sunday 1st November

I can’t believe the half term holiday has gone already!  The week has flown by and we hardly did any of the things we planned to do.

We accompanied Peter to work in Derby on Thursday which was a nice trip.  He was working in the Westfield Centre which is a massive shopping mall.  I purchased some nice clothes for the girls and a new handbag for myself as my favourite bag is about to fall apart at the straps.  It’s so hard finding the right bag, my old one had 2 big compartments (one side for me, one side for the girls and their “keep me busy” things).  I struggled to find one, however Peter, Lauren and Martha came up trumps and found one for me!  Thank you!  The highlight of the trip was making an unplanned visit to my Nana’s in Doncaster on the way home.  We didn’t see Granda unfortunately, but will try to make some plans before Christmas to do so.

We had family “fireworks” today as well and I don’t mean the pretty ones you see in the sky.  Sadly, Peter encountered the situation from his mum that I face every time (undermining our/my role as parent).  I wasn’t there to witness the event, however by both Lauren and Peter’s account it was not pleasant as words were exchanged on both sides.  I am now in a quandary – I have tried to explain to Peter what has been happening for a while but didn’t seem to be getting through.  Now that he has experienced it first hand, I feel bad that he’s upset by it all.  Should I be feeling relieved that my experiences have been felt, or feel guilty that Peter had to go through it?  I just don’t know, all I do know is that I don’t like this feeling at all.

Anyway, he’s off to Scotland for the next week so I’ll be able to get the house in order (physically speaking!) and hopefully keep the girls occupied enough to fall asleep easily at bedtime!

Over Halloween, I watched Most Haunted Live and was pretty much disappointed with it (please don’t mock!).  There were ad breaks every 6-7 minutes, constant recaps from Paul Ross, repeated competition plugging and not as much investigating as I’d hoped for.  There were a few unexplained events which were interesting but not worth 8 nights of television viewing!!  In the end I recorded and fast forwarded through the most part.

The four of us thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween Trick or Treat Hunt which took place at Brimham Rocks to raise funds for Playgroup.  I’ve added some more photos to the October album.

Tuesday 27th October

Firstly, apologies for my previous blog.  It has so many spelling mistakes, what planet must I have been on!!

As suspected, Lauren received not one, but two recognition certificates at the Barnabas assembly that we missed due to our trip to IKEA!  She was recognised for working so hard and we’re very proud of her.

She worked hard again last week and was allowed to bring Charlie (the class doll) home for half-term much to her delight!

Last week was pretty hard with Peter being away and Lauren being poorly, resulting in a day off school on Wednesday.  Thankfully Lauren is now on the mend and Peter is back home :-)

We’re not going away this half-term so have decided to have one of these new “staycations”!  So far I spent a day without doing laundry – whoopee and the four of us spent a day crafting.  We’re hoping to go on a couple of day trips, however the weather has been a bit strange so cannot plan too far in advance.  We’re looking forward to Friday, when the four of us are going on a playgroup fundraiser (http://www.dacrebanksplaygroup.org/news.html).  The girls have got their costumes and broomsticks ready!

Tuesday 13th October

Our week has got off to a crazy start!  Someone crashed into Peter's work van a couple of weeks ago, so had arranged through the extoritionately priced fleet hire company to get it repaired in Leeds.  After over 2 years of begging, Peter and I thought it would be an ideal time to nip to IJKEA to get the girls units to create their playroom as he was getting a Transit van as a replacement - which is qyite handy for moving things!  Anyway, we dropped Lauren off at school and crawled our way into Leeds with all the traffic - not a fun experience.  Turned up at the repair shop right on time and waited for hire van to be delivered and waited, and waited!  He recieved a phonecall saying we're driving round and round Aldershot and can't find you - erm - so our trip was called off!  It worked out in the end as Peter got a call out  so either way it was never going to happen.  We're re-scheduled for Friday which unfortunately means I'll miss Lauren's Barnabas assembly and no doubt she'll receive her first recognition certificate whilst I'm not there!

Lauren has been produicing some wonderful pieces of work recently, all thought of and driven by herself.  She created a wonderful "harvest at home" (Lauren's own title) collage using leaves from our wood, wheat from the field and photos of our neighbours (cows!!).  Due to a technical hitch at the harvest service last Friday, Lauren's collage was made centre stage, which was very excting for her(ok I was excited too!).

I amm feeling a bit homesick again and realy was looking forwd to going up with Peter at the end of the month with it being school half term - however he hasn't any work which I didn't realise so will not be going.  I don't know when the next school holiday/Scotland work with coincide but I hope it's not before long.  Sad

Martha seems to be growing at an astonishing rate of knots.  Not phsyically but mentally.  Sometimes the things she says really take me by surprise and I have to remember that she's 3 not 5 - I think big sister influence plays a major factor.  She has started wearing necklaces and bracelets every time she goes out, and insists on taking her handbag.  It's very funny and those that know me, I hope, can identify that it's not  my style - where has it come from?!!?

Thursday 8th October

Andrew's funeral yesterday was as emotional as expected.  Peter and I arrived half an hour early expecting to be there in good time.  The church was already full and it was literally standing room only.  The service was thoughfully and so personally put together.  Mags had organised for Andrew to be taken to the crematoriam with Motorcycle Funerals, it was such a fitting transport for him.  It felt so wrong for the young to outnumber the old so much.  Jason who was both Andrew and Peter's best man made a very moving speech.  It was hard for us being there knowing that such a key member of the circle was missing.  I think that we'll notice his absence for a very, very long time to come.  The day was hard enough yet it was made harder by the insensitive question of "did you have a nice time then?".  Ironically, I was reading my sister's blog today and read the following quote (I'm sure she won't mind me using it, it just seems so pertinent)...  The writer, hostess, horticulturist and plant collector Lady Dorothy Nevill once said "The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment".  Sadly, I believe that this wisdom will never be learnt by some, I can only however, make sure I keep it in mind so as not to make the situation worse.

Highlight of the Day - Lauren winning a prize at school for her "observational picture".  She was outside with all class completing an art task of drawing what you can see.  Lauren was congratulated on her level of detail and neatness - we are all very proud of her (she chose a bouncy ball from the prize box).

Thought of the Day - "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." (author unknown)

Friday 2nd October

I really have fallen off the blogging wagon.  Things have been busy and to be honest I haven't really been in the right frame of mind to blog for some reason.  We celebrated Lauren's 5th birthday with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse party which Lauren, Martha and her new school friends really enjoyed.  The weather was good so we managed to play outside and eat inside which was a big help.  She is really settled into school now and emotionally has matured over the past month - we are very proud of her.  Martha is adjusting to playgroup without Lauren quite well.  She has formed new friendships and like Lauren has matured over the Summer and first month back.

We also had some very sad news on Monday, our very good friend Andrew died suddenly and we are both still reeling from the news.  I don't know how long it'll take to come to terms with it, but hope that the funeral on Wednesday will help in some way.  Life can be very hard sometimes and words are not enough.

Thursday 23rd July

Another exciting couple of weeks have passed!  Biggest things lately have been:-

  • Lauren leaving Playgroup last week
  • Our building work commencing on 7th
  • Progress re above happening at an amazing rate
  • Me losing another 4lb on the Wii Fit!
  • Peter and I celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary

Lauren had her Leavers' Ceremony last Wednesday.  I was glad Peter was able to move his schedule around to enable him to attend.  All the children performed songs for us and demonstrated their mathematical skills.  Lauren was presented with a certificate and two photographs, one of herself with all the other leavers which is such a nice idea and then another which just captures her at play.  I've posted some photos in the new album and below.  The week previously, the girls had their Sports Day which as always was good fun for all.

The building work upstairs is fantastic!  I'm very excited about our shower room which is going to look fantastic!  The girls are very impressed with how their bedroom is shaping up and I can't wait to see everything plastered so I can start doing the design and finishing touches.  I've been working really closely with the joiner se around to ensure that he creates the ideal storage for our needs.  I already have tons more storage space in the shower room than I currently have in the main bathroom which is at least double the size!

Today we are getting the workshop delivered and assembled.  They are actually working on it now, and I have my storage system designed, labels printed, grid poised for data entry and map displayed in preparation for this afternoon/tomorrow's task of moving all the crates from half the living room into it!

Hopefully today or tomorrow, the door will be created in our new bedroom which will form a balcony from which we can take in the breathtaking views.  I cannot explain (although I'm sure you're getting the gist!) about how much difference the changes will make to us!

On a final note, I would like to wish my Grandparents a very, very happy 60th Wedding Anniversary!

Saturday 4th July

I can’t believe that it’s already July!!

As seems to be the norm just now, we have been busy, busy, busy!  The highlights (and lowlight) of the past week or so have been:-

  • Martha’s 3rd Birthday and Beach Party.
  • Peter’s work syndicate winning a fortune on the National Lottery!
  • Lauren becoming even more settled during her “Come and Play” sessions at her future school.
  • Progress being made in clearing upstairs ready for Phase II.
  • Me losing 4 lbs since getting Wii Fit!
  • One of my closest friend’s left during the week to return the US permanently.  I will miss her and the family greatly.

and finally…

  • For what feels like a long time, the four of us fighting fit!

Martha’s 3rd birthday seemed quite a surreal experience for a number of reasons.  Primarily where has the time gone, we feel like our life has whizzed by during the “now over” horrid period.  I think I am still coming to terms that this time next year she will be approaching her time for starting school.  The weather was fantastic which meant that we could have her party outdoors (her other two have been rained indoors!) and, finally on the party front, it was such an easy theme to cater for that I didn’t feel I had to work as hard as usual!

Lauren is really looking forward to starting school now and is confident enough to leave me at school, allowing me to return home.  The last session incorporated the School Sports Day which I did stay around for as I think the slight change threw Lauren a bit so needed a bit more support.

Our joiner starts on Tuesday to begin our upstairs – I cannot wait!  I have been planning this since expecting Martha (see bullet point 1!!).  I really believe it will make a difference to our daily family life just by having more room to spread our activities about.  We’ve decided to continue having the girls share a room for the time being – this allows us to have a playroom which for my own selfish mental health will be great.  I cannot relax in the evening when I feel surrounded by toys etc.  I don’t expect the room to be tidy at all times, nor the toys to remain in their at all times but at least I can chuck them in, close the door and switch off!

Now, my Wii Fit!  I apologise for going on and on and on about this but I really am enjoying it and it seems to work for me. I simply do not have the time to go running, to the gym, swimming during the day or evening plus I simply don’t want to have to drive 20 minutes to get to one!  I can do the Wii at any time really as I can do as many minutes as I have available (2 mins to 1hr!).  After Martha’s party, two of my friends had a go and enjoyed it, so we’re thinking of maybe having a regular get together where we can get fit and spur each other on!

The lowlight of the past week is my very, very good friend Heidi and her family left to return to Texas having lived here for a number of years.  I really will miss her friendship as she is one of these people whom simply being around, made me feel like a better person and encouraged me in every aspect.  I don’t know how that aspect will continue over the internet, Skype, pen/paper etc but I really hope it can.

The upcoming week is going to be another busy one with the building works finally getting underway and on Tuesday a full concrete wagon will be arriving to complete our base for our fantastic new posh shed!  Oh what an exciting life I lead, cement wagons and sheds!!  If you take a look at my updated June photo album, you’ll see another dumper unloading a few tons of hardcore for the base – whoopee!!

Sunday 21st June

Happy Father’s Day!!

The girls and I woke early to get things ready for Peter’s special day of indulgence!

On Friday, we made him a little matchbook (where the front flap folds over) full of Father’s Day Coupons from cleaning his car to head rubs from the girls.  He loved it and I got the chance to use my Lidl cutter perforator tool which just makes it brilliant as each coupon actually tears off really easily and neatly!  We served him a full English breakfast in bed complete with home-made message toast which he loved!  The girls presented him with his cards and present (a power ballad 6 CD compilation, which is slightly different from his usual hard dance ones but he loved it!!).

After breakfast, Peter went on his motorbike to Fewston Village Hall where Lauren’s school were raising funds serving tea, coffee and cakes, and we followed in the car.  We drove past the Sun Inn, where we saw Peter standing talking to a family friend so we stopped and chatted for a while too which was lovely.  When we got to the hall, it was lovely to see familiar faces all in jovial spirits.  We were really pleased when Julie, Andrew, Emma and Phoebe arrived with Julie’s mum and her dog.  We spent a bit longer sitting and talking whilst the girls all played happily – it was so relaxed (even with a barbed wire fence which the girls gravitated towards!).  Afterwards we all drove/rode to Martin’s house to wish him a Happy father’s day as Susan and the girls are currently in Canada for a family wedding.  The girls played nicely together although it felt odd not having Chloe and Macey around!

For dinner, I made roast pork with Peter’s favourite, Yorkshire Puddings and loads of yummy veg – the girls wolfed it all too which was lovely.

It was the best Father’s Day we’ve spent!

I have also treated the family to a Wii and Wii Fit, from eBay I can’t justify the new prices although the used are still pretty high!  We’re all looking forward to it arriving and I can’t wait to see if it helps me lose weight and increase fitness.

Monday 15th June

So much has been happening recently, mostly all positive which is wonderful!

The biggest event over the last couple of weeks is the end of our near 4 year battle following our run in (literally) with a very drunk driver in 2005.  I’m so relieved that I do not have to go to court as to be honest I think I would have struggled going over it for the umpteenth time and coupled with the fact that my mother in law was to be there as a witness for us – too stressful!  It means that I can now move on and leave the past in the past.

Lauren attended her first “come and play” session at school on Friday.  She was understandably clingy to start with as we (and all the other newbies) walked into the Reception/Yr 1 class to excited (and familiar, friendly) faces.  She relaxed completely when her “buddy” Steven arrived to look after her, so much so that she actually told me that I could go home as she was “ok now Steven’s here”!  It’s such a relief that she’s now looking forward to starting school.

The joiner has been around and we’ve discussed our next phase of house building which involves the long anticipated move upstairs!  I am so very excited and the first two weeks of July cannot come soon enough!  Each time I drive past the workshop where our stairs are being made I get excited – sad I know!

The not so good stuff is that for some reason the girls are going through a very destructive and rebellious stage.  They seem intent on undoing any work I do to try to get the house in a reasonable state and it feels like everywhere I walk, I have two Tasmanian Devils behind me chattering, giggling and destroying!!  It feels awful to say and think but I am looking forward to Lauren starting school and Martha being in playgroup more mornings a week from September.  I think that Peter and the girls seem to cope with living in chaos but it really does affect my mental well-being when things are not in order – no amount of reward charts or threats seem to turn them back into helpful girls.

Back to the positive end of my blog - we’ve had one of the best weekends we’ve had for a long, long time.  On Saturday afternoon, we attended our God-daughters’ 4th birthday party which everyone really enjoyed and the sun was shining!  Peter has got himself a motorbike so he went out on Saturday evening for a ride and he’s really enjoying being back in the saddle so to speak – his mood has lifted considerably!  On Sunday afternoon, we attended the leaving party for my very good friend Heidi, her husband Patrick and lovely daughters Hannah and Camille.   They are leaving to return back home to Texas at the end of the month having been here for around 4 years.  I will really miss Heidi’s friendship and hope that Skype will help us keep in touch although it certainly will not be the same.  Again, the sun shone the whole time and the children loved bouncing on a cake bouncy castle whilst everyone enjoyed the Ceilidh, Lauren and Martha very much so, although Peter didn’t join in!

We’ve a busy week ahead with work being done outside in preparation for some hardstanding for a shed to put our precious items in for storage whilst inside work gets underway.  We have a lunch date on Tuesday with a hopefully new friend for me and a new classmate of Lauren’s, there are preparations for Martha’s beach/bbq birthday party to finalise and buy for, and finally another “come and play” session for Lauren, after which I’ll be looking after my God-daughter for a while – it’s so nice that they will be in the same class as each other!

Wednesday 3rd June

This evening Peter and I attended our first school parent's evening!  It was great to see all the other anxious, excited and friendly parents as well as the very welcoming head, teacher, teaching assistant, secretary and catering manager!

There is a whopping 12 new starters in September (8 girls, 4 boys) and an extra 2 over their top intake figure - it just shows how keen people are to get thier children in.  I felt emotional seeing things like the timetable, talking about lunches, PE etc and I'm sure I'm not the first or the last and those before me have coped!!!  Lauren is so keen to start and to be honest I am starting to feel that way too - I love having Lauren at home and the freedom we have now to go with Peter at the drop of a hat but I know that she isn't being stretched enough at playgroup and at home.  She is getting on really well with her Jolly Phonics and I'm so pleased that I attended the classes last year as they've been very helpful in making sure that what we do together fits in with the school.  I was particulary impressed with the quality of the school meals, they bake fresh bread in school every day, most of the vegetables are locally sourced as is the meat.  The uniforms were also very good quality, especially the reversible, waterproof, reflective school coats , and reasonably priced too (cheaper than what we normally pay for coats!).

On another note, I am now sporting a very purple and blue lip!  Lauren ran into my face yesterday in what can only be described as a rugby scrum manouvere!  Thankfully the swelling has gone down considerably, yesterday I looked like botox gone bad!  What upsets me more than the actual pain and shock is how poor Martha coped so wonderfully with her injury.  Mine is nothing compared to hers, her tooth was pushed right back and up-it really does break my heart to think that she was in so much pain :-(

Lauren starts her first "come and play" session at school on the 12th June, we're all quite excited by it all!

Friday 29th May

It’s been a sobering day today – we had one of our advisers around to write our wills.  I know that we’re doing the responsible thing but it is so emotive obviously.  The scary thing is that if we don’t do it, and if something happened to both Peter and I that the girls wouldn’t automatically be cared for by family, they become wards of the state, it’s worth doing it for that comfort alone.

Anyway, brighter things, the weather has been wonderful hasn’t it?!  Lauren has developed freckles across the bridge of her nose and cheeks just like me and it really suits her.  A friend pointed out that Lauren’s eyes are exactly the same colour as her hair and they are!  They really are blossoming into pretty little things, although Martha’s curls aren’t just as tight as they were but I doubt she’ll have straight hair though!

My vegetables and fruits are growing wonderfully in the combination of rain and heat we’ve had recently.  I’m really pleased that my potatoes are growing strongly as my friend who has the same soil has been struggling with hers so I wonder if the wind/sun makes a difference here.  We have two strawberries starting to turn red and one cherry tomato, I say cherry but actually it’s more double the size of a cherry tomato!  We’ll be fighting over who gets the first taste of our home-grown food.

I’m a bit disappointed with the seed mats I bought.  The photo shows wonderful blooms however mine haven’t all come through and are probably about 20% of what I expected, obviously I’ve no flowers yet so it might change.

We’re accompanying Peter to Northumberland tonight as he’s got an early start (0600) job in Alnwick tomorrow, we’re really looking forward to it.

Enough blogging for now, I’m off out with the girls to enjoy the sunshine and hopefully get some colour!

Tuesday 26th May

We had a lovely day today at the girls friend Livi’s birthday party.  We all went to Hesketh Farm Park where my friend (Livi’s mum) had supplied a feast for everyone.  The girls love going there and spent time feeding lambs, handling guinea pigs, holding newborn chicks, admiring tiny piglets, taking a ride on a tractor trailer, playing in a massive sandpit, getting lost several times in a haybale maze, riding pedal tractors, playing in the playgrounds, drooling over the horses and donkeys, and looking at newborn calves (one was born on my birthday!!).

The day got us talking about the girls forthcoming birthday parties and what they would like to do.  Lauren is very certain over hers, Princesses (“and Princes if I have to have boys there”), Martha thought for a very long time, and about an hour later decided that she’d like a BBQ party – eek!  We’ve moved on slightly from there and after asking about her favourite things to do, we’re now planning a beach/bbq party – fingers crossed that we get good weather, although we have had a bbq on Guy Fawkes in a gazebo so it should work even if the children have to be indoors.

Sarah directed me to a good party supply store www.partypieces.co.uk I can get a foil 8ft palm tree for £4.25 and lots of other palm tree, beach paraphernalia!

Don’t forget Organised Mum Diaries are out soon!  I’ve just starting using their Party Planner and have to say it’s really handy already.

I’ve finally remembered to take the camera out and have also let Lauren loose with it so the May album is here!!

Sunday 24th May

We’ve spent the last week accompanying Peter to Scotland.  We expected to be away for 3 nights however were away for 4 when he got an out-of-hours call to Newcastle on the Thursday.  It seemed craziness to drive past for 1.5 hours, drop us off, then drive back up again!

Our first night was spent in the Glasgow South Premier Inn.  The location was great for Peter’s work (2 mins away) however it wasn’t somewhere where I would have felt comfortable walking with the girls.  In our short stay there I saw a man staggering down the street dripping with blood, 3 very, very drunk people and too many boy-racers to mention! The hotel was really good and the staff were really helpful at the meals with the girls.  On our way north, we stopped for walk along the beach at St Cyrus which is a nature reserve – it was stunning and we all enjoyed our time there.  They have a lovely unmanned visitors centre with remote control cams so you can look around.  One thing that did both surprise and amuse me was a professional information board advising you about a type of bird you might spot – the line read “if you listen carefully you can here the birds call" or something to that effect!  They actually used the word “here” instead of “hear” – amazing how these things slip through the net!

Our second night was spent just south of Aberdeen and was the first place we’d been to where there was a Wacky Warehouse type thing in the restaurant – it was fantastic!  The girls didn’t get grumpy waiting for their dinner and Peter and I managed to have a starter whilst they played – it just felt that we didn’t need to rush.  The next morning we got up early and drove to a small place just south of Banff to a private customer on a farm.  The girls enjoyed seeing some brand new lambs and admiring the working dogs.  Afterwards, we spent some time admiring the view at Pennan on the advice of the farmer – it was very much appreciated as we wouldn’t have known to go there otherwise.

Our third night was spent in Dundee at a different one to usual.  This one was next to Camperdown Park and I thought that we might have had time to go for a walk or ice-skating but that wasn’t to be.  They also had an indoor playcentre which the girls again loved.  I always feel very homesick when we go for a few days – the scenery is stunning as it is at “home” however I really do believe it’s the sea that tugs at my emotions every time.  We spent some time at Silver Sands beach at Aberdour on our way southward and enjoyed a picnic on the beautiful sandy beach as well as a paddle – the weather was stunning.

Yesterday we took the girls to see the Milkshake Live show in Harrogate – they had a fantastic time although I was disappointed that our seats had to be changed due to them bringing a different sized stage which meant our original 5 rows from the from seats had move to top of the middle section seats – oh well it was only Peter & I that noticed!  It was really nice afterwards to walk around town as a family.  It’s not often I like shopping, however it was nice just looking around and being together.  After tea we popped down to our friends house.  They have two very small pigs, 2 mad sheep, 3 goats, umpteen hens (thank you for the eggs!), 3 ferrets, 2 rabbits, at least 3 cats, a dog and a beautiful hare.  The girls were thrilled to be able to help feed them all although Martha got a bit nervous when one sheep became very interested in her!  They’re getting some miniature ponies in the next couple of days so we’ll be back down again!  We left far, far later than expected but were all so relaxed we lost track of time!

Today we’ve spent most of the day outdoors and enjoyed a bbq for dinner.  I have spent some time weeding my raised beds which are coming along brilliantly and laying some straw around my ever growing strawberries.  I extended our outside table tonight so that it fits 8 around which finally allows me to get my parasol up and my bargain £ shop LED parasol light ring- I just have to wait for darkness now to see it in it’s full glory!

Thursday 14th May

Just when I think I cannot get any more disorganised and behind, it happens!!  I can't quite put my finger on when I took my finger (are you confused now?!) of the preverbial pulse but either I was super organised before or I have taken on too much now?!?  I like to think it was the former and normal service will be resumed as soon as I can get myself motivated, injected with energy or have a family that realises that they are messy and I alone cannot cope with the amount of mess they create!  One thing that seems to be having a positive effect on me is setting my alarm (stupidly early!) which allows me to wake up myself as opposed to by the girls.  I guess when I'm woken by them I'm straight to work whereas I can actually get 10 minutes or so on my own and it really does make a difference.

On a nicer note, my sister Julie came to visit us (twice in a week!) bringing my lovely nieces (albeit chickenpoxed) and her boyfriend Chris, whom we've not before.  Other exciting things that have happened in our world is that Lauren has been accepted into Dacre Braithwaite Primary School which we're all thrilled about, she knows all the teachers (3!) very well already and went to Playgroup with most of the current Reception class so when she joins with them in September (it's a shared class of Reception and Yr1) she'll be reunited!    Martha's tooth is thankfully still in place, although is still causing her pain when it's either touched at the bottom (ie pushed up) or when she falls or Lauren hurts her mouth.  We're booked for our check-up on 28th May so the dentist will be able to re-assess her.

My vegetable beds are positively sprouting!  I am so happy to see my seedlings appear and can even start weeding now I know what are my crops and what aren't!  I bought some cauliflower and pea plants from a local nursery on Monday which I've put in and they make the bed look more established and fingers crossed will give me a higher chance of producing something edible!  We planted strawberry plants (Lidl - 6 plants for £2.99!) and a blackcurrant bush too.  I am trying to grow some more thyme in my herb garden as I've been having real problems keeping it alive.  I've taken some advice and discovered that I should try adding some sand as they like very well drained soil - fingers crossed!

I;ve been very, very slack at taking photographs this year so will have to make a real effort to do so and get my albums updated!

Website of the Day:  Organised Mum (I've signed up as an affiliate so if you purchase anything using the link I'm meant to get something!)

Thursday 16th April

I am really rubbish at the moment with updating my blog - sorry to any readers!!

Martha's tooth has improved a huge amount - I'm so glad it hasn't fallen out, although it is still pretty wobbly and is starting to discolour.  I'm really peeved at the fact that no mention or enquiry has been made to her, about her or whatever from my in-laws - it's upsetting.

We've been very productive outdoors recently and Peter has been wonderful and built my raised bed together with two smaller, lower ones for the girls to plant vegetables and flowers in.  We've planted potatoes, leeks, cabbage, onions, cherry tomatoes and sweet peppers, with some more going in over the next week or so.  I've planted seeds in my hanging baskets which have started to sprout so hopefully they're on their way now.

I enjoyed a very happy birthday, thank you to everyone for all my gifts, they are wonderful and I really appreciate them.  I decided to spend the day on a family picnic and walk with our good friends.  We walked nearly 2.5 miles up some rough, high terrain and was very impressed with Lauren & Martha's stamina and good spirits.  I've switched on my GPS device for the third time since buying it a year or so ago and think now is the time we could actually use it to find geocaches and do something productive whilst on our walks too!

Thursday 2nd April

We enjoyed a lovely weekend with good friends.  We all attended the family service on Sunday that was held at Lauren & Martha's school.  We all had a great time and even Peter enjoyed himself, although I don't think nor expect his attendance to be a regular thing!

Sadly our week went downhill rapidly on Monday evening when Martha had a serious accident.  I was at a Playgroup Committee meeting and arrived home to two very white faces and Martha asleep.  Basically it now transpires that Lauren pushed Martha over in their bedroom when they were meant to be asleep and she's ended up knocking her front tooth right back and it's also dropped down.  On Monday night/early Tuesday, it was not known what had happened and when I asked a very sleepy Martha she said she banged her head on the wall.  I called the emergency dentist who are actually NHS Direct Dentistry who advised that because there was the possiblity of a head injury and the severity of her mouth injury I had best take her to A&E.  Peter was staying away that night so it was very stressful and I realised just how good a support team we are to each other.  I took Martha down and they advised that she was going to lose her tooth and would need to go under general anaesthetic which was a very scary prospect.  They then got another opinion and sent us home after checking her over fully with the advice to see the dentist first thing in the morning.

We saw our dentist first thing who thankfully reassured me that it wasn't as bad as it looks, however she may still lose her tooth but he's not taking any action until it calms downs over the next few days/week.  I feel so emotional about the whole thing and angry that it were highly probable that it could have been avoided and that I didn't recieve a phone call to tell me what had happened, a committee meeting 5 mins away isn't priority over Martha being badly hurt and screaming (according to Lauren) for "mummy and daddy".  I really makes me think what the hell has to happen for me to receive a phone call, I hate the thought of the answer to that question.  I have decided that I am not going to any meetings for the foreseeable future unless Peter is at home.

It feels like everything is political and power games - I can't stand it and I refuse to be drawn into them where the safety and well-being of my family is at stake.  I would rather live in a caravan and speak my mind than be cooped up unable to speak out.  Nothing is more important than Lauren, Martha and Peter - I don't understand why that is so hard for people to accept or why they appear to see it as a weakness or being soft.

Tuesday March 24th

I'm trying to set up a free site for the girls playgroup.  There is one currently but the username/password don't work and it doesn't appear that anyone is manning the "helpdesk" so I'm kind of stuck!  The only problem is, that when you type in the playgroups name, it directs you to the outdated site rather than the new, trial one.  I'd really appreciate any help in getting traffic visiting the site to try to boost it up Google's ranking so please feel free to click, point to, re-direct it however you see fit!

Thank you!!

Talking of playgroup, Lauren was awful when I collected both her and Martha today.  She started kicking, dragging Martha by the hair, it was horrible (not least for Martha), but for everyone who witnessed it.  Having now settled her early to bed, I suspect that tiredness may have been a key factor, or at least I hope it was.  They were really in good spirits this morning, we baked Easter themed cookies this morning (before 0800!) for them to take in to share with their friends at cafe time.  They were all taken and by all accounts enjoyed.  I've ordered some Shredded Wheat and Mini Eggs in tomorrow's shopping to make some Easter nests to take in on Friday as they are so easy for the girls to make and I've also got an abundance of pretty Springlike pastel cases leftover from the baptism to use up.  I tried out two of my loaf cake packs from Tesco whilst the oven was on (gingerbread and fruited loaf).  Sadly I managed to drop the fruited loaf onto the oven door so it had to get eaten for pudding tonight but it tasted delicious and was so simple yet homemade in both appearance and taste - I had a little try of the gingerbread one as a bit got stuck on the card ovenproof loaf tin that it came in, it too was scrummy!  Great for if like me you like baking but are a bit lazy or inconsistent with results!

Sunday 22nd March

Happy Mothering Sunday!

We accompanied Peter to Scotland last week and had a great time, although Lauren and Martha developed a tummy bug which I got last night and today and Peter is coming down with!

We went to a few Morrison's stores and sadly at each one I picked up more and more gardening products from their fantastic Spring range!  I am really impressed with the pre-seeded hanging basket/container mats and the seed boxes (bee and butterfly attracting and scented selection).  I can't wait to put them in!

Before we left for home, we visited my sister Jan and saw two of my three nieces which was lovely.  The girls all had a great time playing outside, it's nice to see they all enjoy each others' company and I'm sure that the more frequent visits we've been able to make has helped.

On Saturday, Peter made my raised beds and we've started filling them with soil, although after 3 tractor bucket loads it's half full and we got a bit tired, so will continue again this week.

I was very excited on Saturday when I was browsing Google Maps Street View, I spotted my sister Laura waiting for her bus outside of work!  Big Brother IS watching!!  I must admit that I really like it, I can see why some people are a tad nervous but it's interesting to see, especially if you're trying to remember a shop, pub etc that you passed, but you can't recall the name, now you just re-trace your steps in the comfort of your own home!

Sunday 1th March

We've had an exciting few weeks again.  Peter & I became Godparents to Macey which is a great honour.  We all enjoyed a lovely private service following by a fantastic brunch buffet at Susan and Martin's.  Martha has been to playgroup on her own for the first time and enjoyed it so much, she wants to go on her own everytime!  Lauren has a new single bed, which looks massive compared to the toddler/cotbed she's been in since birth!  We decided to go for a lowish cabin bed to maximise storage space and have to admit that it's far better quality than I expected for flatpack from Argos!

I have ordered and taken delivery of my new Organised Mum Family Life Book - I tried to use the Netmums diary but it was just too small for me so have reverted back to original and as I was so late, got it in the sale!  We've been spending a lot of time with our close friends which has been a treat but something that we all agreed we should try to do more of.  Yesterday we attended our friend's birthday party and had a fun time.  Afterwards my friend Susan and I decided to spend an hour or so in Harrogate on our own as the husbands had enough vehicles to take all the children back home (via their model shop and sweet shop of course!).  I really enjoyed (I know I hate shopping normally!) looking around and even tried on a few things and will definately have another adult only shopping trip, if only to get myself some new clothes!

I have made myself an action plan to be accomplished within a year!

    • Lose weight
    • Get fit
    • Get organised
    • Get family active!

I feel very motivated at the moment and hope it keeps up!  Please help me by either stopping me eating rubbish, reminding me of the above plan or anything else you think might help!!

Friday 27th February

Hmmm, I really am falling behind with my blog!  We've actually been very busy the last couple of weeks.  Week commencing 16th February, Peter took us up to Scotland with him - I was really pleased to spend some time with my sister and nieces although it was really over too quickly!  The girls were not on their best or even semi-best behaviour especially at night-time which made the days that much harder to cope with but we all survived relatively intact!

What has been keeping me the most busy is taking on the management of our rental property!  I feel a lot more in control of it now and am actually enjoying the organising, production, collation of the contracts, packs etc.  I've been getting a lot of guidance from the Residential Landlords Association so am comfortable that I'm doing everything by the book.

We've also started taking exercise and activities as a family.  To be honest both Peter and I are lacking energy and motivation at the moment, I think Peter more so.  After another couple of horrendous nights, I suggested to Peter that we do some activities with the girls, which needn't be expensive and hopefully enjoyable!  We sat down on Saturday night and decided to go for a long family walk on Sunday.  We are very lucky to be surrounded by beautiful scenery and decided to start relatively sedately using Yorkshire Water's recreation grounds around the local reservoirs.  We opted to walk around Fewston reservoir and probably completed about 2.5/3 miles and we all, especially Peter, enjoyed it.  We had a picnic in the car and an ice-cream on the way back.  On Monday, the girls and I decided accompany the neighbour and her dog on their walk.  Really, I only planned on walking to the end of the lane and back, but we decided to go on the whole route and the girls amazed us both with their stamina and behaviour.  We covered nearly 4 miles uphill and downhill and we're treated on the way back with the sight of some very new lambs, which delighted us all!  I'm starting to wonder if I suffer from S.A.D or if it's just the fact I love Spring so much! I feel myself come alive when the weather, albeit still cold, has drier days and we wake up to not only beautiful sunrises but wonderful dawn choruses.

On Wednesday we took advantage of Peter's work in Blackpool and had a day at the seaside - unfortunately it sounds more exciting than it was due to the fact that a) it's off-season and b) they're renovating all the promenade and have closed the beaches.  We drove a little way outside of Blackpook where we managed to find a lovely sandy, quiet beach where the girls enjoyed being "chased" by the waves and running wild.  This afternoon, Lauren and Martha had some newish friends over for lunch and we all enjoyed playing outside afterwards.
